HIAC 2017 Wrestling Observer Star Ratings Odds

The Kambi oddsmakers have added their Wrestling Observer Newsletter star ratings betting markets to their coverage of this Sunday's WWE Hell in a Cell 2017 PPV.

All of the markets I'll write about in this post are about the Observer's editor - Dave Meltzer - and how he'll review the matches in the next edition of his popular newsletter. Wagers will be settled once the issue is released next week.

As per usual, the traders have priced up over/under markets for all the matches on the card. They've also put up 'Highest Rated Match on the Card' odds as well as a special where clients can have a bet on Meltzer giving any of the matches on the night five stars or more.

In this post, I'll go through all of the specials that are available and note the prices.

Working backwards, we have..

Any Match To Get 5 Stars Or More
This is the special where the bookies will pay out on bets if Dave Meltzer rates any of the matches on Sunday's card five stars of more. This weekend, the oddsmakers have priced this up at 15/1 (+1,500 US).

This winning selection in this market will be the match that receives the most stars in the review of the show in the next issue of the Observer.

As you can see above, the traders have placed the Smackdown Tag Team Championship match as the favourite. It's EVENS (+100 US).

'Any Other Match' will cover any of the bouts not listed. For example, this would be any late additions to the card as well as the Kick Off match.

There have been occasions, just like for No Mercy, where at least two matches were tied. If this were to occur again, dead heat rules are applied. This means that the punters' stake is split by the number of winners, but the odds remain intact.

Over/Under Betting
Every single match that has been announced for Sunday has been given an over/under line by the oddsmakers. The customer can choose whether they believe the newsletter's editor will rate the respective bout over, under or exactly how the bookie has set it.

Here's a table with all the lines. I'll get into more detail below.

WWE HIAC 2017 Observer Star Ratings Betting Lines

Shane McMahon .vs. Kevin Owens
I have started off with this market because, unlike the others I'll eventually get to, customers have been able to bet on the star ratings for this market ahead of today's republication.
When it was first installed, the line was set at three-and-a-half stars. The 'Over' was 27/20, the 'Exactly' was 5/4 and the 'Under' was 23/20.

WON Star Ratings Betting Odds For Hell in a Cell 2017 - Shane McMahon vs Kevin Owens

As you can see by comparing the first prices to the current odds, the line has stayed at 3.50, but the punters have evidently been betting on the match to be give above three-and-a-half stars because the odds for 'Exactly' has moved from 5/4 into 27/20 and the 'Over' from 27/20 into 19/20.

(Correction: The 'Exactly' price of 27/20 should have been coloured in green. Future images will reflect this)

Kick-Off
The line for Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable versus The Hype Bros has been set at two-and-a-quarter stars. The 'Over' is 27/20, 'Exactly' is also 27/20 and the 'Under' is 11/10.

Bobby Roode .vs. Dolph Ziggler
Bobby Roode's main roster PPV debut has been given a line of 3.50 stars. If you believe the match will receive more than three-and-a-half stars, you're looking at odds of 5/4. The 'Exact' is also 5/4 as is the 'Under'.

Randy Orton .vs. Rusev
This is yet another market where the line has been set at three-and-a-half stars. The prices are as follows:
Over 7/5
Exact 7/5
Under EVS

Smackdown Tag Team Championship
With The New Day's defence of the Smackdown Tag Team Championship against The Usos being placed as the favourite to be the outright winner in the 'Highest Rated Match on the Card' market, it shouldn't be surprising to see a high line in the over/under.
The bookies have set it at 3.75. Therefore, if you think Dave Meltzer will rate this match over three-and-three-quarter stars, you can bet on it at 11/10. If you believe it'll land right on the nose, the odds are 5/4. Anything less than three-and-three-quarters will pay out at 7/5.

Smackdown Women's Championship
The line for Natalya .vs. Charlotte Flair is three-and-a-half stars. All three options are available at 5/4 each.

WWE US Championship
The AJ Styles versus Baron Corbin match has been given a line of three stars by the oddsmakers. The 'Over' is favourite at even money, 'Exactly' is 23/20 and 'Under 3 Stars' is 7/4.

WWE Championship
Shinsuke Nakamura's WWE Championship challenge against Jinder Mahal has been given a line of two-and-three-quarter stars. Both the 'Over' and 'Exact' are 6/4 each while the 'Under' is 9/10.

I plan to publish more updates about these Observer markets across the weekend, so keep checking back. Prices were correct as of 1pm BST today and available from websites that publish Kambi's WWE markets. A couple of examples can be found below:

  1. US title match and tag team titles match will mostly be over the line

Not sure about Randy vs Rusev as 3.5 stars. I highly doubt that

Natalya vs Charlotte might be below 3.5

I think Roode vs Dolph and Shane vs Owens are fine. May be Shane vs Owens as 3.75

Mahal vs nakamura. LOL might be 2.5
