MyBookie Publishes Crown Jewel Prop Market

In what I personally think is close to the region of taking celebrity dead pool bets, the oddsmakers from MyBookie have published a market where clients can wager on WWE pulling out from holding the Crown Jewel show in Saudi Arabia.

This market was created due to the situation involving Washington Post journalist, Jamal Khashoggi who has gone missing - feared murdered - after visiting the Saudi Arabian consulate in Turkey on October 2nd.

There are allegations that the decision to capture the journalist was ordered by the Saudi government. This has been denied.

The news has caused many businesses dealing with Saudi Arabia to reconsider their relationships with the country. For example, Richard Branson suspended discussions with the Saudis over a billion dollar investment that was to be given to Virgin Galactic.

Branson announced, in a statement released yesterday, that 'what has happened in Turkey around the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, if proved true, would clearly change the ability of any of us in the West to do business with the Saudi government.'

WWE has offered a statement of its own - 'we are currently monitoring the situation'.

As far as the prop bet goes, the bookmakers seem confident that the show will go ahead as planned. They've installed 'No' WWE will not pull out as a -500 favourite while the 'Yes' has been given +350.

It isn't as immoral as creating markets where people can place wagers on celebrity deaths, but it's very close. This is, in the very least, a market that has been created on the back of a kidnapping and - at worst - a murder.
