Even though I locked Seth Rollins in as my pick to win this year's Royal Rumble in the Rumble Ramblings post from earlier this week, I have spent this weekend backing a dark horse pick that I forgot to mention.
In a post from a week ago yesterday, I mentioned that I had backed Daniel Bryan .vs. Rey Mysterio to be a match at WrestleMania 35. After it was published, Damo left a comment asking if I was tempted to back Mysterio to win the Royal Rumble. I stated that I wasn't because I was still not confident that Bryan .vs. Mysterio would be the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania.
With that said, I placed a wager with Sky Bet on Rey being in the final four at 10/1 shortly afterwards.
Then - as the week wore on - another friend who I met through WWELeaks talked me around by saying that I'd probably regret it if Rey were to win tonight. Plus, at 70/1 or 66/1, there was value considering the lack of babyface depth on the Smackdown roster.
We both agreed that Mysterio should be much shorter than the bookies were offering.
I still think Rollins is the guy who'll win tonight, but if he doesn't - and it's to set up the WWE Championship contender for Mania - then I wouldn't mind if it's Mysterio.
There's nothing out there to suggest that Bryan .vs. Mysterio is the Mania match, though. Just guesswork on my part.
