Earlier today, I published a post noting that the Kambi oddsmakers have released the Wrestling Observer Newsletter star ratings markets for tomorrow night's WWE Royal Rumble PPV.
After publishing, it dawned on me that there could be a potential problem with the settlement of all of these markets due to Dave Meltzer suffering a hand injury a day or so ago.
With the editor's hand in a cast, there's a chance that upcoming issues of the Wrestling Observer will be delayed. Kambi's rules state that the markets are settled on what is reported inside the issue, so I checked in to see if the settlements would still be eligible if Meltzer reveals his star ratings on any of the upcoming audio shows that he is planning to do while he recuperates.
The trading team from Kambi have just got back in touch with a statement. The bottom line is they WILL honour bets if the issue isn't published, but still Meltzer grades the matches on his own social media platform or the F4Wonline.com website (audio included).
Here's the statement in full:
We believe that the fairest way to handle this scenario is to abide by whichever announcement the editor of the publication makes in this respect in the coming day since bets were placed in good faith by users and not accepted in error, hence it would be unfair to unilaterally void the bets given that the particular situation (ie, injury to the editor), does not affect in any way or another the outcome of the bet and that official star ratings will most probably be declared anyway by the editor, albeit potentially via different means.
Thus, should the editor declare officially (via any of his official social media profiles, websites or audio/video shows), the Wrestling Observer newsletter will not be published due to his injury, and/or that the star ratings as declared on his audio shows in the coming days after the event, are the OFFICIAL ratings of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter for the event, we will base our settlement on whatever the editor describes to be the official star ratings.
We understand that such decisions might bring a potential conflict in the settlement. In view of this, we are offering any user who placed bets the possibility to contact us before the event starts and have their stakes refunded.
The markets were covered in THIS POST from earlier today.
