Gunther Takes The Majority In BetOnline SNME Research

If a consensus is anything to go by, Gunther will beat John Cena -  in the latter's final match - on tomorrow night's edition of Saturday Night's Main Event.

That is the conclusion from some research carried out by the staff at BetOnline over the past week.

Since Gunther won the Last Time Is Now Tournament to determine who John Cena will face in his final match, BetOnline has been tallying geotagged data on X to determine which wrestler is favoured per each US state.

Phrases like 'Gunther will retire Cena', 'Cena will win' and everything in between were used for this experiment.

As you'll be able to see in the image, Gunther beats out the retiring John Cena with a score of thirty-two to eighteen.

Cena's birth state of Massachusetts is green. As is, I surmise, where he spends a lot of his time: California. However, I am of the belief Cena also owns a home in Florida and that state is seemingly rooting for the Austrian, who happens to also be based in that part of the US.

John Cena .vs. Gunther - Who's Favourite?

In regards to the actual betting for the match, this morning was the first occasion when I noticed a price change which sided with Gunther. As the match favourite, The Ring General's odds were lowered from -300 into -350 with his opponent moving out from +200 to +225.

Cena's price had plummeted from +700 into +200 since Monday evening.

This isn't the first time BetOnline has used such a method to gauge fan opinion over major matches in recent history.

In 2023, the sportsbook found that 62% of the US had rooted for Cody Rhodes to beat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. That result ended up going the way of Reigns. Similar research was carried out for the WrestleMania 40 rematch. On that occasion, the consensus surprisingly sided with Roman Reigns.

Half of the US was also hoping for John Cena to win this year's Royal Rumble. As we now know, Cena was the last man eliminated in the battle royal which was ultimately won by Jey Uso.

Going by those examples, there could be hope for Cena, and those who have gambled on him, to go out on a high.
