Finn Balor Becomes 2017 Rumble Favourite And More

Finn Balor is now showing as a favourite to win the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble over at MrGreen.com and the other websites that use Kambi pricing.

The former WWE Universal Champion, who hasn't wrestled since sustaining an injury during his title-winning victory at SummerSlam 2016. is now 3/1 with the firms. The previous number I have for him is 6/1.

This move now puts him at the top of all domestic Royal Rumble betting markets. Betfair.com and its partner PaddyPower.com had moved him into favouritism before Kambi. If you are still looking to bet on a Balor win, Paddy Power's WWE Betting Page is showing him at a slightly better 10/3.

There could be a good reason as to why Balor has seen some action of late. Last week, the PPG Arena - in Pittsburgh - announced that the main event for WWE Raw's Roadblock PPV could be Roman Reigns taking on Kevin Owens for the aforementioned Universal Championship. The Arena's website also lists other wrestlers that might be on hand for the evening. Balor's name appears on it.

One of the rules of thumb I rely on when looking up future house show or television venues is to never buy stock in names that WWE's marketing team has sent out to these buildings. Before last week, I was under the impression that the Royal Rumble may have been too early for a Balor return although I was holding out hope that he enters, and wins, the battle royal as he is one name that I have bet on.

Balor is also on record as trying to quell the hopes that he'll be back in time to close out 2016. He told people at a Wizard World Comic Con panel that he plans to be at home with family for Christmas. Roadblock is December 18th.

He is quoted as saying '..what date is Roadblock? December 18th? I will one hundred percent guarantee that I will be home with my family and friends at Christmas. I will be back in 2017.'

Of course, it could be subterfuge on his part. If he appears at Roadblock, he still has a week to get home. And his guarantee isn't compromised as its focus is on being home for Christmas and being back in the new year.

Balor's move to the top of the board means he has leapfrogged Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens, John Cena, Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar. The top eleven selections on the board can be viewed below:

Odds from MrGreen's Sportsbook

There have been some slight changes at the top of the board. Cena, Owens and Reigns have all drifted out from 6/1 to 7/1.

The top tier names, whose prices have came in, are AJ Styles (8/1 to 7/1), Shinsuke Nakamura (14/1 to 7/1), Bray Wyatt (17/1 to 10/1) and Chris Jericho.

Jericho's move from 33/1 to 17/1 is one to watch.

I can understand why wrestling fans are punting on a Jericho victory. His price has been falling since mid-to-late October. In my opinion, the longer he and Kevin Owens are tied together in storyline - with Owens as Universal Champion - the more chance it'll be Owens versus Jericho at WrestleMania 33. If the pair haven't split by the Royal Rumble, and Owens is still holding the strap, there's a strong chance Jericho wins the battle royal to set a metting between the two at WrestleMania 33.
