Punk .Vs. Axel & Heyman Betting Revisited

With it being over a week since the WWE Night of Champions pay-per-view and another fortnight before Battleground on October 6th, I thought I'd update this blog with a look at the betting action that took place in some of the key matches at Night of Champions.

In today's post, I'm going to analyse the odds of the CM Punk versus Curtis Axel & Paul Heyman elimination tag team match due to the huge change that took place in the odds in the hours leading up to the 'surprise' finish which saw Ryback aid Paul Heyman to victory.

The line graph above shows how the odds changed from September 4th all the way to the night before Night of Champions. It clearly shows that Axel & Heyman were the underdogs for all of this period. However, their odds did begin to drop just before Night of Champions weekend.

On Friday 13th September, the duo were available at +110 (2.10 EU, 11/10 UK). This was a significant drop from the +400 they were priced at a day earlier.

By Saturday evening, their odds had shot back up to +450 (5.50 EU, 9/2 UK).

An extensive look at the betting pattern of Night of Champions Sunday shows when the pair were installed as the favourites for the match.

The graph shows the pair were still available at +450 when I first tracked the Sunday odds at 1am EST. There had been a slight increase when I had another look twelve hours later. The plummet began not so long after the second look. This may have been around the same time that word started spreading on what the actual finishes were going to be resulting in larger amounts of bets being placed on the results.

By 6pm EST, the duo had become the favourites for the match and remained that way for the rest of the betting period. Their final price, just before the match began, saw them available at a low -900.
