If you were following along over the weekend, the oddsmakers who work for Kambi released markets where customers could wager on the bout they thought would be selected as being the match of the night by the newsletter's editor.
You can read about the market's release in this post.
The WWE Cruiserweight Championship meeting between Neville and Austin Aries as well as the grudge battle - which saw Seth Rollins taking on Samoa Joe - were both awarded the same amount of stars.

As the table above shows, the Neville .vs. Aries match was a 4/5 favourite when I wrote about the market shortly after its release. I believed that the oddsmakers had selected the right match to have at the top of their board. I also added that - if I were forced to make a choice outside of the Cruiserweights - I would have gone for Rollins versus Joe.
I don't know for sure, but one would assume this market will be settled as a dead heat. This means that half of your stake will be lost. The rest will carry on to the bet at the odds you took when the wager was struck.
Another thing that I added in Sunday's post was that - if there was a market where clients could wager on the worst match of the night - I would have, without hesitation, backed the House of Horrors match.
It was given half a star.
Alas, there was no 'Lowest Amount of Stars Awarded' market, but there was one where clients could get 20/1 on a bout on the card being given one of Meltzer's infamous five stars (or more). This obviously wasn't a winner.
The traders published similar markets for WrestleMania 33. I sure hope they do another one for Backlash in a fortnight as I am looking forward to a couple of matches on the night and intrigued to see what odds they'll be given.
The markets were available from the sports betting and casino websites that offer Kambi pricing. A selection can be viewed below:
Wow ...no 4 star matches
ReplyDeleteIs it the first time since brand split a PPV didn't have a 4 star match
I'm sure there have been shows with less than 4 stars since the brand split.
DeleteWill have to look, but - my initial guess - is it isn't the first time.
I've just pulled up the December 26th issue that covered Roadblock.
DeleteThe highest rated match was New Days versus Sheamus & Cesaro. It was *** 1/2.
I think that's the only one. Haven't looked through them all, just started with the last one of 2016 and worked backwards.
DeleteYeah .. forgot about roadblock
ReplyDeleteI think Smackdown PPV had atleast one 4 star match in every PPV
I didn't bother looking through the Smackdown PPVs for that very reason and why I'm intrigued to see how Backlash is priced up.
