Brock Lesnar Specials Update For June 29th

With the news that the SummerSlam 2017 main event has changed, I thought I'd check back in with the Brock Lesnar Universal Championship specials that are available from the Kambi oddsmakers to see if there has been any significant odds changes.

The last time I published a post looking at the Brock Lesnar specials was on June 10th. Back then, I was under the impression that the SummerSlam main event would see Lesnar defend the strap against Braun Strowman with Roman Reigns waiting in the wings until WrestleMania 34. Now, however, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the main event for the summer pay-per-view has been changed.

The market, where clients can wager on the person who unseats Brock Lesnar to become WWE Universal Champion, is still showing Roman Reigns as a favourite.

This is understandable considering the change in the SummerSlam 2017 main event may have been due to people within WWE bringing the Brock Lesnar versus Roman Reigns match forward to August 20th rather than April 8th 2018.

Interestingly, Samoa Joe's odds to be the next WWE Universal Champion have lowered to 2/1. They have been on the descent ever since it was clear that he would be the challenger to Lesnar's crown. As you can see in the image above, his price fell from 7/1 to 3/1 somewhere between May 12th and June 4th. They have continued to fall ever since.

If the punters are backing Joe to win the Universal Championship, then they don't appear to have backed him doing so in the Great Balls of Fire main event.

I purposely picked the odds from yesterday to point out that - before today's news that the SummerSlam main event had certainly changed - there had already been people backing Lesnar's title loss to come 'During SummerSlam' as its price has fallen from 5/2 to 6/4 with a brief stop at 9/4 in-between. The market remains as it was nearly twenty-four hours later, so today's report has had no significant impact.

Another thing worth noting is the oddsmakers had moved 'During WrestleMania 34' - which is where many, myself included, were expecting Lesnar to lose the strap - up slightly from 21/50 to 4/9.

There's not much to read into looking at the two markets side-by-side. One points to the customers backing Joe to win the Universal Championship while the other has Lesnar dropping the strap at SummerSlam.

This would only make sense if Brock Lesnar .vs. Samoa Joe II - or a triple threat including Roman Reigns - main events SummerSlam.
