Jericho Confirms Battleground 2017 Botch

Chris Jericho recently appeared on the Busted Open radio show in the US and shed some light on the controversial finish to the AJ Styles versus Kevin Owens US Championship match that took place at WWE Battleground last month.

If you recall, Kevin Owens won the match - and the title - after entering as a +1,650 outsider. Shortly afterwards, people were pointing to the possibility of the finish being botched and that AJ Styles (-4,950) was meant to have won.

Jericho confirmed that Styles was meant to have successfully retained the title on the night.

Apparently, Jericho was meant to have wrestled AJ Styles one-on-one for the US Championship on the following episode of Smackdown. However, with Kevin Owens accidentally winning the title on the Sunday, the plan was changed to make the bout a triple threat in order to switch the strap back to Styles.

It probably doesn't help anyone who had backed Styles, but - in my opinion - the screw up made for a better story on Tuesday with Owens having to defend the strap against two of his foes at one time.
