When the special tourney was first announced, the oddsmakers from Kambi priced up markets where customers could bet on who some of the participants would be paired off with. I wrote about how these bets were settled in a post published on January 9th.
While the tournament was underway, Kambi released other match and specials markets. A couple of which were specials where clients could place bets on the team that secured its place in the top part of the final bracket and another for the bottom part.
With Asuka and The Miz appearing in the top portion of the tournament bracketing, they were installed as favourites to be in the top portion.
As you can see in the table above, they were backed from 1/2 into 1/3 within the first day the market was published.
We now know that the punters were on the right side as the team has gone on to be in the top part of the finalists.
Betting on the 'Bottom Half Finalists' allowed the oddsmakers to have a longer list of names. This is because, in the semi-final stage of the tournament, fans were given the chance to vote on an already eliminated team to return to the competition. Therefore, teams that may have appeared in the top part of the tournament table were runners in the 'Bottom Half Finalist' market.
The bookies - and punters - once again had it right as the favourites going in, Charlotte Flair and Bobby Roode, made it to the bottom slot for tonight's final.
Flair and Roode started off at 8/13 when the market was first installed in late-February. The team was as short as 1/5 by mid-March.
