Closing Odds For Tonight's TV Shows

Kambi's match markets for tonight's NXT on the USA Network and AEW Dynamite shows were closed at 10PM BST, so - in this post - I'll point out who the closing favourites and outsiders were along with notes on who the punters backed.

NXT
Adam Cole .vs. Matt Riddle
The NXT Championship match, which will see Adam Cole defend his title against Matt Riddle, will kick off tonight's episode of NXT.

The market opened on Saturday with Cole an 8/13 favourite to successfully retain the strap. His odds were down to 13/25 by 5PM BST the following day and then - by yesterday evening - he was down to 11/25.

Matt Riddle began as a 23/20 outsider, but was out to 8/5 by the time the market closed today.

The Undisputed Era .vs. Street Profits
Cole's Undisputed Era stablemates - Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly - will defend the NXT Tag Team Championship against The Street Profits on tonight's show.

The market for this match was stationary from Saturday to this evening. It had the champs as 1/4 faves while a win for The Street Profits was priced 5/2.

Shayna Baszler .vs. Candice LeRae
The NXT Women's Championship will also be defended on tonight's show when Shayna Baszler take on her challenger - Candice LeRae.

Baszler started off as a 4/5 fave over LeRae (9/10).

As you can see, in the table below, the champ's price was cut numerous times from Saturday right up to this evening.

Baszler closed at the 13/25 I found her at this afternoon.

Candice LeRae was 13/10 when the market was taken down.

For what it's worth, I've backed LeRae here. I did so when she was at 9/10, so obviously should have waited until closer to the show in this case.

AEW Dynamite
Cody .vs. Sammy Guevara
The market for what will be the opening match in AEW Dynamite history - Cody .vs. Sammy Guevara - was opened on Saturday with the number one contender to Chris Jericho's AEW World Heavyweight Championship a 2/13 favourite while a decision for Guevara was 7/2.
No adjustments were made to the market over the five days it was available.

Nyla Rose .vs. Riho
Another market which didn't change from its first day right up to this evening's close was the one for the NXT Women's Championship decider.
Nyla Rose was the bookies' 11/25 fave to become the first-ever AEW Women's titleholder. Her opponent - Riho - was 8/5.

MJF .vs. Brandon Cutler
MJF was a 1/10 to beat Brandon Cutler when a market for their match was published. However, by this afternoon, the favourite had dropped to 1/16.
Cutler drifted out from 9/2 to 6/1.

Chris Jericho, Santana and Ortiz .vs. Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks
On last night's AEW Special programme to advertise the company and its new show, it was revealed that Chris Jericho's mystery partners would be Santana and Ortiz from LAX. When the market was created Jericho and his partners were 2/5 favourites. Their price was down to 13/25 by Monday evening.

With the favourites' price lowered, the team of Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks rose from 7/4 to 13/10 by yesterday evening.

PAC .vs. Hangman Page
Of all of the AEW Dynamite markets, the one that was adjusted the most was for the PAC .vs. Hangman Page match. All the action came in on one side and forced the bookies to switch an underdog to favourite.

As you can see, the gamblers opted to gamble on Page. He had started out as a 19/20 underdog to PAC, but his price dropped over the five days to the point where, by 7PM BST this evening, he had fallen to 11/20.

As a result of the interest in Page, PAC rose from 3/4 favourite to 5/4 underdog.

Even though I didn't bet on the match myself, I believe it's a safe guess to predict why the punters backed Page.

Firstly - AEW  has made it clear that wins and losses are meant to matter. Page has recently lost the AEW World Heavyweight Championship decider against Chris Jericho and PAC scored a win over Kenny Omega in his debut at All Out. So that's one reason.

However, another thing worth pointing out is the fact that AEW wanted to have PAC .vs. Page at Double or Nothing in May. This match didn't happen because PAC was still Dragon Gate's major titleholder and one would suspect that he - and/or Dragon Gate - did not want PAC to lose to Page while holding the title.

Considering Page went on to be in the AEW World Heavyweight Championship match, it's safe to conclude that the result AEW wanted earlier this year was for Page to go over and then head into the title contention for the All Out show on August 31st.

It doesn't necessarily mean that's the result AEW will give tonight, but - going by the betting - I believe it's safe to conclude that the followers of AEW who have bet on Page are hoping so.

And that's all for now. Enjoy the shows, whichever one you're watching.
