Royal Rumble Betting: Cena Getting To Title #16 Via The Rumble?

After watching this week's episode of WWE Smackdown, I'm mildly leaning on John Cena winning next year's Royal Rumble to secure a spot against whoever is WWE Champion at WrestleMania 33.

In a promo with WWE Champion AJ Styles, he made a point about going for his sixteenth world title reign.

A three-way with Cena, Styles and Dean Ambrose was then set up for the next Smackdown PPV, No Mercy.

It should go without saying that the person who will likely take the fall in the No Mercy main event is Ambrose, so Cena doesn't snare the title at that point.

Another thing that has forced me to consider Cena as a Rumble dark horse is the fact that he's off to film the next season of American Grit.

If the filming schedule is similar  to how it went last year, then he should be off from late-October to late-December/early January.  Therefore, he'll be back in the mix for WrestleMania season.

Cena is the latest name in a line of speculative punts I have placed ahead of next year's battle royal.

In March, I backed Undertaker at 80/1. I followed that up months later with an idea that Finn Balor should win the Universal Championship at Mania after winning the Rumble. His injury still hasn't unsettled my opinion that he'll face the Universal Champion at Mania. Not yet, anyway.

Another name I threw out there is Randy Orton (20/1 Ladbrokes) as it's safe to presume he and AJ Styles will collide sooner or later.

For those of you interested, the best price for Cena is 20/1 over at Ladbrokes.com

  1. I have a strange feeling both John Cena and The Undertaker will return at the Royal Rumble, and one will eliminate the other, to begin their rivalry build up for Wrestlemania
