Comment Bag : 23 October 2016

Here are some comments and questions that were left this week.

Alan asked this earlier in the week:

Do you think Sasha or Charlotte will go over in the Cell?

My reply:

I try not to comment on matches until there is at least one betting market available. However, in this case, I think most bookies and punters will see Sasha Banks as the favourite in this spot.

Eric left this on the same day as Alan:

I know it's too soon to come up with conclusions, but do people think insider betting/able to watch the moves is over? Or is it a new way of bookies changing odds after big bets are placed from these insider accounts?

My response:

Judging by your comment history, I think it's safe to state that you've only been following this since earlier in the year.
2016 has been a volatile year where it comes to following the lines. Before WrestleMania 32, the best method to figure out when the insiders have placed their wagers is to wait until the final booking meeting on the Sunday of a PPV (After 6pm EST).
The early moves that started in the spring have now lulled punters into believing that the smallest move on the board is smart money. This has prompted the punters to jump onto selections and force the odds to shorten further.
The thing that you suggested about bookies changing odds after big bets implies that they would increase the odds for the selection that has been heavily backed is something that would certainly not be done over here. I obviously understand the idea behind it as it would trap the wagerers who think they're following the money. To counter this conspiracy - this would open the bookmaker up to insiders hitting the 'underdog' some more and at an improved price.
Is it a liability if they're getting wagers on the 'favourite', though?

This comment that was left in yesterday's post where I wrote about Goldberg appearing at WrestleMania:

Have you read Dave Meltzer's comment on Conor (McGregor) at WrestleMania from Twitter? Thoughts?

My reply:

I've looked at Dave's tweets and I guess you're referring to the one from yesterday where somebody asked 'What are the chances of Conor McGregor making an appearance at WrestleMania 33?' and the response was 'Slim. Too many people took him too seriously.'
There's not much I can add to that. I didn't think he was going to be at Mania in the first place. On August 14th, I wrote - regarding him stirring up trouble with WWE talent - 'I don't think he's angling for a WrestleMania 33 gig. What I believe he's doing is trying to play the panto villain so wrestling fans will be so wound up by his claims that they'll pay for next weekend's UFC 202 show to see him lose to Nate Diaz'.
I'm sure there will come a day when McGregor does something with WWE, though!

  1. I want Charlotte to win, but it will be Sasha

Also, Charlotte never loze 1 on 1 match at PPV.

  2. Betfair Sportsbook have released odds on participants to hold one of the two main belts at the end of the night, and also on Main Event participants...

Surely John Cena @ 6/4 (World Championship) is a cracking price if they are building up to the big event for him to either tie or break Flair's record.

Also rumours seem to be popping up about Rey Mysterio either returning to help the Cruiserweight division or as a potential inductee into the Hall of Fame, the same company are 16/1 on him making an appearance at Wrestlemania 33.

    Any views on these?

    1. Hi inatinmate1,

These markets have been republished as they had been available before today.

Below are some links to the posts that might be of interest, but I'll answer your questions below them:

A post about Betfair’s Mania Champion odds

The post where I wrote about Betfair’s WrestleMania 33 appearance odds

April’s post about Betfair’s WrestleMania 33 main event participant odds

I agree about John Cena winning the WWE Championship. I've been championing the idea that his chase for title number sixteen should be his WrestleMania storyline in my most recent Royal Rumble posts.

As for Rey Mysterio - in the post I linked above, I wrote 'I cannot see how this bet will pay out as a winner. Mysterio is contracted to the El Rey Network, home of Lucha Underground, so it's legally impossible for him to appear for WWE'. Unless something has changed, I still cannot see how he can return to WWE with his LU deal in place.
