Kenny Omega Betting Notes

The wrestling news of the day has been about Kenny Omega seemingly being done with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

With the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion having revealed to Tokyo Sports newspaper that he is moving on after his current deal expires, I thought I'd take one more look at a betting market that BetOnline had before January 1st. I wrote about the specials when I first came across them and then again once All Elite Wrestling was made official.

One of the markets was offering prices on Omega's next contract.

Kenny Omega's Next Contract

I did not bet on any of these specials, but did note that - of all of the markets - Omega's was the one that I was the most interested in because of his ties to NJPW.

+600 for Omega to retain his relationship with New Japan seemed for too generous. I thought he would re-sign and then work US dates for All Elite Wrestling.

This does not seem to be the case.

I think the winning selection will end up being the favourite: All Elite Wrestling. I suspect that what we're going to have from the Elite and Omega is talk of him being a free agent only to decide to sign with AEW instead of WWE. Those who watch Being The Elite on YouTube will get why my gut has Omega sticking with his friends and not going to WWE.

With that said, I got the NJPW call wrong.

What I will state about Omega and WWE is I've noticed that punters might be backing Omega to win the 2019 Royal Rumble. His price was cut from 40/1 into 10/1 between Saturday and this morning in a market that's available from Sky Bet.

I may have made the NJPW +600 call incorrect, but I know the chance of Omega winning the Rumble is highly unlikely.

In fact, it's contractually impossible considering his deal with NJPW ends five days after the Rumble.
