Here are the betting favourites for today's NJPW Wrestle Kingdom event from the Tokyo Dome.

All of the selections are ranked in order of strength starting with the wrestler with the shortest odds.

  • Tetsuya Naito
  • Kazuchika Okada
  • David Finlay
  • Yota Tsuji
  • Shingo Takagi
  • Zack Sabre Jr.
  • House of Torture
  • Guerrillas of Destiny
  • Hiromu Takahashi
  • Catch 22

A Look Over BetOnline's WrestleKingdom 18 Markets

With NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 taking place early tomorrow, I have gone through all of my notes from the betting markets for the event to share with you all the things I've noticed since the markets were published last year.

In this post, I'll go through the card in its potential order and show you who are the favourites, underdogs and possibly the punters' picks to win.

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship
The winners of last year's Super Jr Tag League - Catch 22 - were installed as underdogs when betting for their title challenge against Clark Connors and Drilla Moloney from Bullet Club.

NJPW Wrestle Kingdom Betting

As you'll be able to see, the wagering has sided with Francesco Akira and TJP because their odds have recently fallen into favouritism. They're currently -150.

The titleholders, despite starting out as -350 faves, are now out to +110.

NJPW World TV Championship
NJPW World TV Champion - Zack Sabre Jr. - is favourite to retain his strap with NJPW's newest president - Hiroshi Tanahashi.

ZSJ was -140 when I first started to follow this market on November 15th. However, on New Year's Day, I noticed the favourite's price had dipped into -200.

A decision for Tanahashi is currently priced at +150. It was +100 in mid-November.

Yota Tsuji .vs. Yuya Uemura
A market for the Yota Tsuji .vs. Yuya Uemura singles match has recently been installed with the former a -350 favourite over the +225 for Uemura.

House of Torture .vs. Kaito Kiyomiya and Shota Umino
Another new market on the board is for the tag team match which will see EVIL and Ren Narita - from House of Torture - take on NOAH's Kaito Kiyomiya and NJPW's rising star - Shota Umino.

The bookies have the House of Torture representatives -200 faves to the +150 for Kyomiya and Umino.

In my opinion, the traders should have Kiyomiya and Umino favoured here.

NEVER Openweight Championship
Shingo Takagi has been a -300 favourite to retain the NEVER Openweight Championship with a decision over Tama Tonga since mid-November.

A win for the challenger will pay out at odds of +200

IWGP Tag Team and Strong Openweight Tag Team Championship

NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18

In this match, the winning team will leave with both the IWGP Tag Team and Stong Openweight Tag Team Championships.

The current holders of the IWGP Tag Team Championship - Bishamon (YOSHI-Hashi and Hirooki Goto) - have been dipping this week with their odds moving in from +150 into +130 sometime before New Year's Day and has since been snipped into +100.

The team of El Phantasmo and Hikuleo remain favourites despite their odds moving up from -200 to -140 in this period.

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship
The BetOnline customers appear to be siding with El Desperado to get a win over the current IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion - Hiromu Takahashi.

As you'll see, in the table below, the challenger's odds were at +150 on November 15th, but were reduced into +120 by December 22nd. Then - on December 27th - they were at +110 and now, as of today, they've descended into -120.

NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 Betting

Takahashi remains a favourite. However, it's barely because he is at -130 after starting out -200 in November.

3-Way For IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship
A new IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion will be crowned in this match featuring ONE permanent New Japan Pro Wrestling roster member.

This market opened shortly before it was announced that Will Ospreay was set to sign for All Elite Wrestling. Following that news being revealed, Ospreay's price to win this match went out from -120 favourite and has been as high as +800.

David Finlay's odds plummeted from +200 into -1,250 following the Ospreay news but have since moved up to -1,000 due to some possible interest coming in on an Ospreay win because the Ospreay selection was taken off the board on December 30th and had returned the following day at a shorter +500 from its previous +800.

The third man in the match - Jon Moxley - has risen from +350 to +800.

NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 Betting

Kazuchika Okada .vs. Bryan Danielson
The odds for a Kazuchika Okada win over Bryan Danielson have been backed from -400 all the way down into -2,000 between November 15th and New Year's Day.

This one-way traffic, likely because Danielson scored a win over Okada when they met in the main event of AEW Forbidden Door last June, has seen Danielson drift from +250 to +700 in this period.

NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 Betting

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
Tomorrow's main event will see IWGP World Heavyweight Champion - SANADA - defend his title against G1 Climax winner - Tetsuya Naito.

The challenger has been backed from -1,000 into -5,000 between November and this week.

NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 Betting

As a result of Naito's price dropping across those weeks, his former LIJ stablemate has been pushed up from +500 to +900.

I should be back in time for the start of the event with all of the closing favourites. Until then, you can check the latest odds by visiting BetOnline's website below.

A Look At BetOnline's Okada's Next Contract Market

Earlier this week, reports began to circulate about Kazuchika Okada and his employment status. This news has prompted BetOnline to publish a specials market.

The New Japan Pro Wrestling star's contract is set to expire in early 2024. This has obviously prompted speculation that All Elite Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment could enter into a bidding contest to lure Okada to the US.

Despite Okada's current deal entering its twilight, BetOnline has placed New Japan as a -125 favourite to retain his services with a renewal.

AEW is the company's second-favourite with odds of +150. Then it's WWE at +200.

Okada Betting Market

The market was first brought to my attention yesterday evening. There have been no apparent price changes within the past day.

BetOnline Publishes NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 Markets

BetOnline has published markets for the seven matches that have so far been announced for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18.

The event will, as per usual, take place on January 4th.

NJPW Logo

The main event should see Tetsuya Naito challenge SANADA for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship although I read an article a few days ago which stated that Kazuchika Okada has suggested there be a vote to allow fans to choose if SANADA .vs. Naito or Okada .vs. Bryan Danielson headlines the show.

Whether anything comes of that is yet to be seen.

As for the title match - the oddsmakers have placed this year's G1 Climax winner as a -1,000 favourite. A win for SANADA will pay out at odds of +500.

A decision for SANADA would not surprise me even though I think Naito is fairly set as the fave. What I am trying to articulate is I believe SANADA's odds are far too high as the underdog.

Since becoming champion, SANADA has defended the strap against most of his former Los Ingobernables de Japon stablemates. Naito would be the end boss of sorts.

The other match that is vying for the main event, if we're to believe there will be a fan vote, has Okada at -400 to Bryan Danielson's +250.

The last time the pair wrestled against each other in a singles contest was at Forbidden Door in June. On that night, Danielson went over.

The rest of BetOnline's Wrestle Kingdom markets look like this:

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship
Bullet Club WarDogs (Champion) -350
Catch 22 +225

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship
Hiromu Takahashi (Champion) -200
El Desperado +150

Triple Threat Title Match
Will Ospreay (IWGP US/UK Heavyweight Champion) -120
David Finlay +200
Jon Moxley +350

NEVER Openweight Championship
Shingo Takagi (Champion) -300
Tama Tonga +200

NJPW World TV Championship
Zack Sabre Jr. (Champion) -140
Hiroshi Tanahashi +100

A Final Look Through G1 Climax 33 Betting Markets

It is now a day removed from Tetsuya Naito's winning of this year's G1 Climax, so I thought I'd write one final post about the tournament.

Here is the complete table with the odds movements I was able to record from when BetOnline first opened its outright winner market in early June right through to when the bookmakers made their last changes before the semi-finals took place.

G1 Climax 33 - Outright Winner Odds

As you can see, when the market was last made available, the eventual winner had become the odds-on favourite with a price of -125.

The 'Tetsuya Naito' selection had started out at +400 on June 4th. However, the top price you would have found during G1 season would have been +1,000 between July 27th and 30th.

On July 27th, Naito would have been sitting on four points from a possible eight. A day earlier, Shane Haste had beaten him hence the jump from the previous odds of +250 to +1,000.

As you can see, the odds began to slide after that because Naito didn't lose again after  Haste.

The D Block winner market started out with Naito as a -110 fave to be at the top of the division once all of the round robin matches had been completed. The two losses to Jeff Cobb (First Round) and Shane Haste (Fourth Round) led to Naito's price to be crowned D Block winner increase. The top number turned out to be the +400 from July 27th (this was the same period when Naito was +1,000 to be the outright winner).

G1 Climax 33 Betting: D Block Winner

When last available, Naito's selection was +300 to take the block. Zack Sabre Jr. and Jeff Cobb were +100 joint-favourites. At that point in time, Cobb did have a win over Naito but ZSJ had yet to meet the eventual block and tournament winner. The meeting ended with Naito claiming the two points.

To close, here are the prices I was able to catch for the other three block winner markets.

G1 Climax 33 Betting: A Block Winner

The A Block market was the first to be settled because of SANADA's undefeated streak through the round robin portion of the tourney.

Opening as a -500 favourite, the current IWGP World Heavyweight Champion had fallen all the way down into -2,000 before betting was suspended completely.

Kazuchika Okada was a -200 favourite to take B Block when the market first opened in the first part of June. By the conclusion of the tournament, he was a +100 second-favourite mainly due to Will Ospreay holding the tiebreaker over him.

G1 Climax 33 Betting: B Block Winner

BetOnline had Ospreay as a closing -120 favourite. Despite holding the tie over Okada, he finished second with a points tally of ten to Okada's twelve.

G1 Climax 33 Betting: C Block Winner

The bookmakers had David Finlay favoured to take C Block from the first date of wagering right through to the market closing.

The eventual C Block victor had started out at -300 in June, but was down to -500 by July 25th.

At that point in the tournament, Finlay had three wins from three and had just beaten EVIL in a result which factored into how this market would end up being settled because - once the round robin part of he tournament had been completed - both Finlay and EVIL were at the top of C Block with ten points each. Finlay took the block due to holding the tiebreak over EVIL.

And that's all for the G1. Fingers crossed I'll be able to come across markets for G1 34 next summer!

G1 Climax 33: Odds For August 11

There have been some changes made to a couple of markets for the G1 Climax since I last wrote about them yesterday.

Tetsuya Naito is now BetOnline's odds-on favourite to win the entire tournament.

As of the time of writing, a win for the Los Ingobernables de Japon leader are now down into -125. They were previously at +150, but had started out at +400 in early June.

Naito's semi-final opponent, Will Ospreay, was the previous favourite with a line of -115. However, with Naito replacing him at the top of the market, Ospreay can now be found at +125.

The other two selections in the running - Kazuchika Okada and Evil - remain at +100 and +1,000 respectively.

Naito's odds have also declined in the match market for tomorrow's bout to determine who will face Okada or EVIL in Sunday's final.

In yesterday's update, I pointed out that both wrestlers were at a -120 pick 'em. I was able to see Naito's price slide into -140 (11:45PM BST), -160 (9:30AM BST) and then -200 (4:00PM BST) at periods since first writing about the market.

NJPW G1 Climax 33 Betting

With Naito becoming the evident favourite, Ospreay has now reached +150.

The market for the other semi-final still lists Kazuchika Okada as a -1,000 fave over EVIL (+500).

G1 Climax 33: Semi-Final Markets Created

With the final four of this year's G1 Climax now confirmed, the oddsmakers from BetOnline have priced up match markets and republished their tournament winner market ahead of Saturday's semi-finals.

EVIL, who beat SANADA today, has been installed as a +500 underdog for his bout with today's main event victor - Okada.

A win for Okada will pay out at odds of -1,000.

The other semi-final match will be a repeat of one of last year's semis with Will Ospreay and Tetsuya Naito squaring off.

Both men are currently priced at -120 pick 'em.

Last year's result had Ospreay qualifying to make it to the final where he ultimately lost to Okada.

In the first G1 Climax 33 post, I wrote about last year's final noting that the camera focused on Ospreay's agony of defeat while Okada celebrated his win. It made me think - as I watched live - there could have been a plan for Ospreay to right that wrong in 2023.

That thought was written before I knew Ospreay and Okada would be grouped together in one of the blocks. When they met, Ospreay was the victor.

I also wrote about being interested in the odds for Shingo Takagi and Tetsuya Naito at the time suggesting that a clash of former Los Ingobernables de Japon stablemates in the main event of Wrestle Kingdom - if SANADA were still holding the IWGP strap - would not be a surprise to me.

For that to happen, Naito winning the tournament would be the way to go. Therefore, and as ironic as it seems considering what I wrote about Ospreay righting wrongs from 2023, Naito could be the one avenging his G1 Climax 32 exit by beating Ospreay on Saturday.

Ospreay is BetOnline's odds-on favourite to be crowned this year's tournament winner. His price is now into -115 from +200.

Okada - chasing a consecutive threepeat - is in second with odds of +100, The most recent price for an Okada win was +350.

Next is the aforementioned Tetsuya Naito (+150 from +250) followed by EVIL who is now at +1,000 from +1,400.

All of the odds moves I've followed in the tournament winner market can be viewed in the table below.

G1 Climax 33 Outright Winner

G1 Climax 33 Betting: Quarter-Finals

I have already made a couple of visits to the BetOnline Sportsbook's markets for the quarter-finals of the G1 Climax tournament that should begin at around 12:30PM BST today.

Of the four markets available, a couple differ from when I wrote about them last night.

The first G1 playoff match for 2023 has D Block winner - Tetsuya Naito - taking on Hikuleo, who was the runner-up in A Block.

Their odds are still showing as -1,000 to Naito while his opponent is +500.

Will Ospreay remains a -600 favourite to beat David Finlay (+350) in the second playoff.

The market for SANADA .vs. EVIL has been adjusted for EVIL because his odds have been snipped from +425 into +400.

G1 Climax 33 - Playoffs Betting

I suppose it's plausible for EVIL to beat SANADA in this spot. The win would set EVIL up as a challenger for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship post-G1.

With EVIL's price reduced, BetOnline has moved SANADA up to -700 from -800.

If the New Japan website is correct, Kazuchika Okada .vs. Zack Sabre Jr. will be the final match of the night.

When I came across the betting for this match last night, it had Okada as a +100 underdog. Those odds had dropped into -110 sometime before 5:45AM BST this morning.

NJPW G1 Climax 33 Betting

Zack Sabre Jr. is still the favourite, but there's only a slight split between he and Okada. ZSJ is currently -130 from -140.

G1 Climax 33: Quarter-Finals Markets Published

The oddsmakers from BetOnline have created match winner markets for the quarter-finals of this year's G1 Climax.

All four matches were confirmed today when the group portion of the tournament was concluded. It saw Tetsuya Naito and Zack Sabre Jr. progress from D Block.

Naito will meet A Block runner-up, Hikuleo. The former is the heaviest favourite on the board with a price of -1,000 to Hikuleo's +500.

Sabre has surprisingly been cast as BetOnline's favourite to beat B Block victor - Kazuchika Okada. The Brit is -140 while those looking to punt on Okada can find him at +100.

SANADA is -800 over EVIL (+425) and Will Ospreay is a -600 fave for his meeting with +350 David Finlay in the other two matches that will play out tomorrow.

As well as those match markets, the outright winner market has been republished. It's a case of no change at the top. Will Ospreay is still a +200 favourite to be crowned this year's winner.

G1 Climax 33 Outright Winner Odds

Odds correct as of 8PM BST. The latest odds can be found on The BetOnline Website.

G1 Climax 33: D Block Finals

The final night of block matches in this year's G1 Climax will begin in a little over an hour from now. Seeing as the betting markets have started to close at fifteen minute intervals on the BetOnline website, I thought I would show you how the betting has gone.

When the market for the opening tournament match of the evening was first published, both Toru Yano and Alex Coughlin were at -120 pick 'ems. The two selections remained at those prices until sometime between 11:00PM last night and 6:00AM BST today because Coughlin's odds were cut into -130 while Yano's were moved to -110.

NJPW G1 Climax 33 Betting

Jeff Cobb (8 points) will need a win against Shane Haste (4 points) - and results in the final two matches to work in his favour - to make it to the playoffs.

He's a -200 favourite to Haste's +150.

It appears as though at least one customer has backed Hirooki Goto to beat Zack Sabre Junior in the third match of the night because his odds were shortened from +300 into +250 last night.

ZSJ will enter the match as a favourite. However, his odds will be up from its earliest -500 to -325.

NJPW G1 Climax 33 Betting

Goto is on six points and Sabre is on eight.

NJPW G1 Climax 33 Betting

Tetsuya Naito (8 points) went from -600 into -650 to beat Hiroshi Tanahashi (6 points) in the main event. On the opposite side of the market, Tanahashi's price moved to +375 from +350.

Tuesday, 8 August 2023

G1 Climax 33: C Block Finals

C Block's final night of G1 Climax 33 action will begin in a little over an hour.

BetOnline's markets for the four matches are still available as of the time of writing. However, they're set to begin closing at 11:00AM BST starting with the first match. The remaining markets will then be suspended at fifteen minute intervals.

Only one market is showing different prices compared to yesterday.

Henare's odds to beat Tama Tonga in the second tournament match of the night have lowered from +250 into +230.

This change has caused Tonga's odds to move up from -400 to -380.

G1 Climax 33 Betting

A loss for seven-point Tonga would knock him out of the tournament and leave the way open for the results of matches three and four to determine a C Block winner and qualifier.

The block's first tournament match has Tomohiro Ishii a -400 favourite over Mikey Nicholls (+250) in a now inconsequential match because both men are far out of the hunt.

David Finlay and Eddie Kingston remain at -400 and +250 respectively for match three. Both wrestlers are on eight points. This could turn out to be a block winner decider should Shingo Takagi lose to EVIL in the final bout of the night.

The main event market still lists seven-point Takagi as a -300 fave to beat eight-point EVIL (+200). The latter will take the block IF - and I suggest it's a big 'if' - Eddie Kingston beats David Finlay and Takagi fails in his chase to get the two points.

G1 Climax 33 Betting: C and D Block Finals Markets Published Plus More

BetOnline's oddsmakers have published markets for the remaining two nights of block matches for this year's NJPW G1 Climax.

Tomorrow's card will see the participants of C Block compete. It'll open up with two wrestlers out of playoff contention in Tomohiro Ishii and Mikey Nicholls.

Ishii, who has so far accrued two points from one win, is favoured with a price of -400 over Nicholls' +250.

Following the opening tournament match of the evening, Tama Tonga - who is on seven points and still in with a chance of making the playoff portion of the tournament - will square off against HENARE, whose tournament will end with tomorrow's match due to having four points.

HENARE is +250 to Tama Tonga's -400 and is in the second match underdog winner spot that has worked for those who may have gambled on Ren Narita and the Great-O-Khan on the closing nights of A nad B Block respectively.

The semi-main event of the evening has Eddie Kingston .vs. David Finlay in a match which will guarantee the playoffs for whoever wins because both men are sitting on eight points each.

Just like with the previous two markets, there is a -400 favourite. In this case, it's David Finlay. Kingston is +400.

The main event obviously has playoff implications as well with Shingo Takagi - on seven points - up against EVIL (8 points). Takagi is chasing the win as a -300 fave to EVIL's +200.

Wednesday's card will close with -600 fave - Tetsuya Naito - meeting Hiroshi Tanahashi (+350). The former has eight points to Tanahashi's six.

The tournament fixtures will start with Toru Yano and Alex Coughlin in a match with no playoff berths on the line. Both men are -120 pick 'ems.

Jeff Cobb, who is on a two-match losing streak, could still keep his playoff chances alive with a win against Shane Haste in the second match. Cobb is favoured at -200 to Haste's +150.

If Cobb were to win, bearing in mind it's in the second match spot which has not been great to favourites the last two nights, he would need Zack Sabre Jr to win against Hirooki Goto in the third match because Cobb holds the tiebreaker over ZSJ but not Goto.

Zack Sabre Jr. is -500 to Goto's +300.

* * *

I'd like to conclude this post with odds notes from yesterday's B Block finale.

Before I do, I should explain why there was no G1 post yesterday.

After watching SummerSlam live, I decided I would see if I would wake up in time for the tournament matches. I did. However, by the time I got to my computer, I had missed any potential closing odds for the four matches. However, I was able to grab some late prices two-and-a-half hours before the show began.

NJPW G1 Climax 33 Betting

The first tournament match for B Block's closing round was won by KENTA.

As you can see, the bookmakers opened up the betting with both the eventual winner and YOSHI-HASHI as -120 pick 'ems. By the early hours of yesterday morning, KENTA was the clear favourite with a price of -150 to his opponent's +110.

Match number two was won by the Great-O-Khan who was +250 to Taichi's -400.

The third match of the show saw Kazuchika Okada pick up the two points towards becoming B Block winner. His opponent was Tanga Loa.

G1 Climax 33 Betting

When the market opened, Okada was -500 to Loa's +300. On Saturday evening, I noticed Loa's odds had dipped into +250 but - by Sunday morning - they had moved back out to +300.

Okada had closed at -500, but spent some time at -400 following the early move in favour of the eventual loser.

Will Ospreay beat El Phantasmo in the main event. The win saw Ospreay go to ten points and finish second in the group.

G1 Climax 33 Betting

Ospreay was backed from -1,000 into -1,250 in the time I had followed the market.

G1 Climax 33: Odds Notes For August 5 (A Block Finals)

Today's G1 Climax matches will consist of A Block's final round.

The BetOnline Sportsbook has published markets for the four contests. Here are the odds as of the time of writing.

G1 Climax 33 - A Block Final Night Odds

All of those markets are still showing the same odds as yesterday evening, when I first came across them.

The night will be headlined by Shota Umino .vs. Hikuleo. Both men are sitting on six points each and I surmise that, by the time their match takes place, it'll be a 'win and you're in'.

To get to that scenario, I believe +500 Ren Narita would have to beat Kaito Kiyomiya.

A loss for Kiyomiya will leave him on six points. Then, focusing on the main event (Either Tsuji or Kidd could be on seven points depending on who wins the opening match of the G1 slate), Umino and Hikuleo will fight to get to eight points.

With that said, they could do Kiyomiya getting the win against Narita. That would open it up more for Hikuleo because he has the tiebreaker over Kiyomiya while Umino and Kiyomiya had a draw against each other when they met.

I feel scenario one is what they'll do. Or maybe I am leaning that way because I find the +500 for Narita to play spoiler appealing?

Before today's round begins, it's worth noting that there has been a recent change in the outright winner market.

G1 Climax 33 Outright Betting

When I looked over the market yesterday, I noticed that Tetsuya Naito's odds have slid into +250. This now makes him the second-favourite to be crowned G1 Climax Winner and earn a title shot for January 4th.

After today, the tournament will resume tomorrow with the final matches for B Block.

BetOnline's odds for the four matches can be viewed above.

G1 Climax 33 Odds Notes For August 2/3

BetOnline has republished its NJPW G1 Climax 33 Outright Winner market ahead of the final rounds for each block.

The main takeaway I noticed from yesterday's visit to the website was that Tetsuya Naito has once again creeped up the board.

Naito, who picked up another two points in the penultimate round of D Block's group contests, is now on eight along with Jeff Cobb and Zack Sabre Jr. He holds a win over ZSJ if qualifying into the playoffs goes down to tiebreakers, but he does not have a victory over Cobb.

BetOnline now lists the Los Ingobernables de Japon leader as a joint +300 second-favourite. Naito's previous price was +600. Before that, the selection was +1,000.

ZSJ is one of the other names in the +300 zone. His odds have increased from +200 following D Block's shakeup with Naito on the rise and Cobb dropping potential points with losses against Toru Yano and Hirooki Goto.

The final joint second-favourite is last year's G1 Winner - Kazuchika Okada - who has been at +300 since earlier this week.

The favourite remains Will Ospreay at +200.

Prices correct both as of August 2nd and at the time of publishing on August 3rd.

G1 Climax 33: Night 12 Betting Notes And Results

The penultimate round of this year's G1 Climax - for Blocks C and D - will take place today.

In this post, I'll point out how the betting has gone on the BetOnline website leading up to the start of the event and then share the results as they happen.

Here are the closing odds for all eight matches on the card.

G1 Climax 33 - Night 12 Closing Betting Odds

Of those eight markets, half of them were showing differing prices when contrasted with how they opened.

The opening match will have Hiroshi Tanahashi enter against Alex Coughlin as a -150 favourite. When the market kicked off - on Monday morning - Tanahashi was a -140 fave.

G1 Climax 33 - Night 12 Closing Betting Odds

Coughlin closed at +110, but started out at a slightly lower +100.

G1 Climax 33 - Night 12 Closing Betting Odds

As you can see above, it appears as though a bettor, or bettors, have sided with underdog Hirooki Goto for his D Block meeting with Jeff Cobb.

Goto moved in from +350 to +250 while Cobb's price, as the favourite, moved up from -600 to -400.

Cobb will be coming off his first loss in the tourney, but Goto - on four points - would need to go over in order to still have a chance of making the playoffs.

If Tetsuya Naito is going to make it out of the D Block, he would need to pick up another two points to take him to eight points. Most importantly, a win today would give him a tiebreak over Zack Sabre Junior, who is currently on eight.

G1 Climax 33 - Night 12 Closing Betting Odds

Naito's price as a favourite has lowered from -140 into -160 since Monday. On the other side of the market, ZSJ has moved out from +100 to +120.

Shingo Takagi is another wrestler who needs a victory today to still remain in the hunt. He meets David Finlay in the main event.

G1 Climax 33 - Night 12 Closing Betting Odds

Finlay is on eight points and Takagi is holding five. A win for Takagi would move him to seven points, so he would still need to win against EVIL on Tuesday to be in with a chance. A victory over Finlay and EVIL might be enough to get out of C Block.

Results

  • Alex Coughlin beat Hiroshi Tanahashi in the opener. This result leaves the latter on six points and Coughlin moves to 4
  • Mikey Nicholls beat EVIL in what I consider an expected result because the final night of C Block needed EVIL .vs. Takagi to have some importance (if Takagi wins tonight, of course). As far as the points go: Nicholls is now on four and EVIL remains at 8
  • Toru Yano won against Shane Haste. Yano now on four points, Haste still on four
  • Henare beat Tomohiro Ishii. This moves Henare to four points. Ishii still only has the one win and will meet Mikey Nicholls on Tuesday while Henare faces Tama Tonga
  • The bettor/s who backed Hirooki Goto will be happy to know that their wagers have paid off. Goto has moved to six points, Cobb remains at 8
  • Eddie Kingston beat Tama Tonga to get to eight points. Tama Tonga stays on seven points. Interesting
  • Naito got the much-needed win against Zack Sabre Jr. to send him to eight points ahead of next week's final group match against Hiroshi Tanahashi. ZSJ - also on eight - will meet Goto, who - as you saw earlier - is on six
  • Shingo Takagi did indeed win the final match of the night. He now moves to seven points ahead of the August 8th match with EVIL. David Finlay, who stays on 8, will meet Eddie Kingston on that night

G1 Climax 33: Night 11 Betting Notes And Results

A and B Blocks penultimate group matches for this year's NJPW G1 Climax will take place today.

In yesterday's post, I wrote about BetOnline's match markets for today's card. Below, you'll find some notes about some price changes that have occurred since the post was published.

G1 Climax 33 - Night 11

In the image below are the odds for each match on today's card as of 9:30AM BST.

The market that has been the most active since yesterday is the one for YOSHI-HASHI versus Great-O-Khan. It has seen the latter's odds dip.

G1 Climax 33- Night 11 Betting

Great-O-Khan was an underdog with a price of +150. I noticed the odds had reduced into +145 when I checked in at 7:00AM BST today then - just before writing this post - they were down into +140.

As a result, YOSHI-HASHI has moved up as a favourite from -200 to -180.

A win for G-O-K would see him get to four points ahead of the final night of B Block on Sunday. In that round, he'll face Taichi who - if he beats El Phantasmo today - would be on eight points and could still in the hunt to progress into the playoffs.

Today's Results

Here are today's results along with some notes about points ahead of the final nights for both blocks.

  • Hikuleo beat Kaito Kiyomiya in the opener. He was a +250 underdog to Kiyomiya's -400. Both men are on six tournament points following this result
  • The wagers on Great-O-Khan (see above) will be settled as winners. He scored a pinfall victory over YOSHI-HASHI. Both are on four points
  • Ren Narita forced Chase Owens to submit. This was the first win for Narita (he had two ties). Both left this one on four points
  • +300 El Phantasmo beat Taichi to go to six points. Taichi stays on six
  • SANADA extended his tournament winning streak to 12 points. This time against Gabe Kidd
  • Tanga Loa won as a +500 underdog against Will Ospreay. The results opened up B Block heading into its final round
  • Yota Tsuji beat Shota Umino in the match that had both men close as -120 pick 'ems. This is one I thought would be a draw because both Umino and Tsuji have had draws against Ren Narita, All three wrestlers are regarded by New Japan as the Reiwa Three Musketeers, so I assumed there was a chance that all combinations of matches between the three would result in draws after the first two were. They did tease a draw, however, because the match ended with seconds left in the regulated time
  • Kazuchika Okada defeated KENTA as a -2,000 favourite in the main event. This brings him to 10 points and leaves KENTA out of contention with four points.

G1 Climax Odds Notes For July 30/31

BetOnline republished its outright and block winner markets for the G1 Climax yesterday. On top of that, earlier today, I noticed that match winner markets for nights 11 and 12 have been created.

In today's G1 post, I'll go through the outright and group markets and then show you what the prices are for the bouts set for tomorrow and Wednesday and point out some changes that have been made to a few of the markets since this morning.

G1 Climax 33 Outright Winner
The outright market has been refreshed with some of the names now out of contention taken off the board.

When I last wrote about this market, there were four joint-favourites. Now there are only two in Will Ospreay and fellow Brit - Zack Sabre Jr. Both wrestlers have dropped from +250 into +200.

The other two wrestlers who were with Ospreay and ZSJ at +250 last time around - Kazuchika Okada and Jeff Cobb - have both drifted to +300 each.

One other name has had a price reduction and that is Tetsuya Naito. He was +1,000, but is now +600.

G1 Climax 33 Betting

B Block Winner
The market for the B Block winner is unchanged with Will Ospreay at -120 followed by Kazuchika Okafa (+100). Here is the table for those who may want to see how the selections have altered since betting commenced on June 11th.

C Block Winner
The only notable adjustments for the C Block Winner market have been to take out Aaron Henare, Tomohiro Ishii and Mikey Nicholls because they're now out of contention.

The bookmakers have kept David Finlay as their -200 fave to take the block.

D Block Winner
With both Zack Sabre Jr. and Tetsuya Naito lowering in the outright, the bookmakers have reflected those moves by shortening both wrestlers in the D Block Winner special.

ZSJ is back on top of the market following a price cut from +120 into +100. He replaces Jeff Cobb, whose banana skin loss to Toru Yano has made the bookmakers push him up from -140 to +100 joint-favourite.

The aforementioned Naito was previously +400 but is now at +300.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, who won yesterday's main event against Hirooki Goto to send his points to six from a possible ten, has had his odds halved from +2,000.

G1 Climax 33 Betting

Nights 11 and 12
Here are the current odds for tomorrow and Wednesday.

G1 Climax 33 Betting
*Please note that Kazuchika Okada's odds should be -2,000

I first came across those markets at 10:00AM BST today. There appears to have been some wagers placed because three markets have been adjusted since then.

SANADA was a -400 favourite to beat Gabe Kidd when they meet tomorrow. His odds have now dropped into -500 while Kidd's have increased to +300 from +250.

G1 Climax 33 Betting

The other two markets that have changed are for Wednesday.

G1 Climax 33 Betting

As you can see, in the table directly above, Tetsuya Naito was a -140 favourite at 10AM BST. His price has now moved into -150.

If Naito were to win (and I think he will), he'll move to eight points in D Block. That would also leave ZSJ on eight.

Wednesday's headline match will see Shingo Takagi attempt to get to seven points against David Finlay, who has eight.

G1 Climax 33 Betting

BetOnline had both wrestlers at -120 this morning. As of the time of writing, Takagi's down into -140 with Finlay now positioned as the underdog at odds of +100.

Takagi winning would keep him in the hunt leading into C Block's final round. If other results go his way tomorrow, of course.

G1 Climax 33: Night 10 Betting Results

Here are the results from today's card of the G1:

  • David Finlay beat HENARE in the opener. The winner was a -300 favourite over HENARE's -300. The victory places Finlay back to the top of C Block with eight points. For now.
  • The Toru Yano spoil I predicted a couple of posts ago occurred in the second match when he beat D Block leader - Jeff Cobb. As noted yesterday, Yano opened as a +500 underdog, but was bet down to +300 within an hour or so. Cobb had opened at -1,000 but was moved up to -500 following the bet, or bets, on Yano. This was the first loss for Cobb in this year's tourney and was the first win for Yano
  • -400 favourite, Eddie Kingston, beat Mikey Nicholls (+250) to get his third win from five
  • Tetsuya Naito was a winning -1,000 favourite over Alex Coughlin (+500). This moves Naito to six points from a possible ten. Coughlin remains with just one win
  • EVIL was a -200 favourite winner over Tomohiro Ishii (+150). This moves EVIL back up to the joint-top of the block albeit below Finlay, who holds the tiebreaker
  • Zack Sabre Jr. returned to the top part of D Block with a win over Shane Haste. However, just like with Finlay and EVIL in C Block, tiebreakers come into it and Jeff Cobb is above ZSJ. As for this match, ZSJ was a -2,000 fave. Haste was +700
  • The match between Shingo Takagi and Tama Tonga ended in a draw. This leaves Takagi on five points and Tonga with seven. Going in, both men were at -120 pick 'em
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi won against Hirooki Goto in the main event. The result moves Tanahashi to six points in D Block. Goto stays at four. The winner was a -250 fave. I thought Goto at +170 was the play here

G1 Climax 33: Night 10 Markets Published

Earlier today, BetOnline released its markets for night ten of this year's G1 Climax.

The bouts will take place tomorrow and will feature round five contests for the participants of the C and D Blocks.

I received word that the markets had been published this afternoon. When I picked up the message an hour later, I noticed that one of the markets had been adjusted,

As you'll see below, Toru Yano's odds to sneak a win over Jeff Cobb have dipped from +500 into +300.

G1 Climax 33 Betting

Cobb is undefeated and Yano is winless. It looks like a punter - or punters - are gambling on Yano playing spoiler, as I suggested in yesterday's post.

On the horizon, Cobb will meet tomorrow's main eventer - Hirooki Goto.

Those who think Goto will beat Hiroshi Tanahashi to travel into the Cobb match with a win might find +170 odds appealing.

Here are the odds for each match in tomorrow's match order:

HENARE +200
David Finlay -300

Toru Yano +300
Jeff Cobb -500

Mikey Nicholls +250
Eddie Kingston -400

Tetsuya Naito -1,000
Alex Coughlin +500

Tomohiro Ishii +150
EVIL -200

Zack Sabre Jr. -2,000
Shane Haste +700

Tama Tonga -120
Shingo Takagi -120

Hiroshi Tanahashi -250
Hirooki Goto +170

G1 Climax 33: Outright And Block Winner Odds Notes For July 27/28

BetOnline republished its outright and group betting markets for the NJPW G1 Climax.

In this post, I'll go through the adjustments and point out the selections that have shortened since I last wrote about the markets a couple of days ago.

I'll start with the tournament winner odds and then get to the three remaining Block Winner markets. The A Block market has closed because no one can threaten SANADA's position as group leader.

Outright Winner
Following his first loss of the tournament, Zack Sabre Jr. is no longer BetOnline's sole favourite to win the entire thing.

ZSJ's odds have been moved up from +200 to +250. The bookmakers have kept both Kazuchika Okada and Jeff Cobb at +250 and have reduced Will Ospreay's price from +300 into +250 to create a four-way tie.

Following his win over David Finlay to open up the top of C Block, Tama Tonga's odds to be the outright winner have been reduced from its previous +1,400 into +1,000.

Another name whose odds have been cut following his most recent result is Shane Haste. He was a +500 victor over Kazuchika Okada on Night 8 and has now seen his outright winner price trimmed from +5,000 into +4,000.

G1 Climax 33 - July 27 and 28

B Block Winner
Will Ospreay's main event win over Kazuchika Okada on yesterday's show has seen him become odds-on favourite to take B Block.

Ospreay is -120. That's down from the most recent price of +200.

Yesterday's losing main eventer - Kazuchika Okada - was favoured with a price of -500 when I last wrote about this market. His price has now began to drift and is currently at +100.

With one win, and out of any chances to even qualify as a runner-up, Great-O-Khan has been taken off the board in this market as well as in the one for the tournament winner.

C Block Winner
As I wrote ahead of Wednesday's event, C Block needed Tama Tonga to beat David Finlay because it would have created a three-way tie at the top of the division. My prediction turned out to be accurate because Tonga did indeed pick up the two points and is now with EVIL and Finlay at the top of the Block.

Despite all three men being level in the tournament storyline, BetOnline still has David Finlay as the group favourite. However, his odds have increased and the other two wrestlers' have dropped.

Finlay is now at -200. That is up from the most recent -500.

Tama Tonga and EVIL were both +300 second-favourites before Wednesday's show. The former's price has been halved while EVIL has dipped into +200.

D Block Winner
Jeff Cobb's win over Zack Sabre Jr. on Night 8 caused a changing of the guards in both D Block and in its group market.

ZSJ, who had been odds-on to win since the market first opened, has now been pushed out to +120. Cobb, on the other hand, has continued to descend and is now at -140. He was most recently +100, but had started out at +350 on June 11th.

Toru Yano, just like in the outright market, has now been removed from the group market because - with zero wins so far - his role now could become that of spoiler.
